Day 13: Because these are my mama's favorites :)

Before I started this little venture, I called and asked my mom what her favorite cookie was so I could add it to my list. Before I could even finish my question, she shouted "Mexican Wedding Cookies!"

Now. I know you're all thinking, but Lisa- you've already made Mexican Chocolate cookies. Yes, that is true. But these Mexican Wedding Cookies are entirely different. They are also called Russian Tea Cakes, Italian Butter Nuts, Povloron, Southern Pecan Butterballs, Snowdrops, Viennese Sugar Balls or Snowballs. My loving husband just peered over my shoulder, read that last sentence, and asked if I was making all that up. Nope. Wikipedia helped me out on that one.

Basically, they are melt in your mouth shortbreads covered in powdered sugar. I tasted one earlier and I could instantly see why mom loves them. She has always adored any type of shortbread cookie that you can dip into hot tea. Always. Those Treefoil Girl Scout cookies that you thought no one bought? My mom bought them all.
So I made these for her. She's been a little under the weather so I am bringing her this plate tomorrow to try and cheer her up. 'Cause Christmas is about giving, you know.
