Election Night Jitters

I can't believe election day is tomorrow. After what seemed to be a two-year long primary race- oh wait, it was- and after suffering through the lame local political ads for the past few months, I am pretty ready. But not just ready to have it all over with. I am ready to see the outcomes and test the polls and watch the states turn red or blue throughout the night. I love an election year when there is no incumbent. I am starting to get this nervous excitement and starting to think the "extra hour of sleep" could not have come at a better time as I am going to need all the help I can get to stay awake tomorrow night.

I think we are going to have our own little watch party as somehow I managed to marry someone my own age who is more into politics than I am. I am not sure what we will eat, but I am thinking of making these just to be festive. Thanks Hostess with the Mostess for the fun idea!

I have blogged about it before, but I love voting. It's a great celebration of our freedoms and a chance to see the root of democracy at its finest. Which, is sometimes hard to find, so look closely when you walk into that voting booth. I am now contemplating about what time in the day I should go to the polls. I am thinking early morning, lunch and right after work will be the busiest times, so I might sneak away in between my meetings tomorrow and hopefully avoid the long lines. Then again, I hope there are long lines because it means more people are getting out there and voting. I just hope I don't get stuck in them.

The one thing I am terribly upset about is how much I am going to miss Tim Russert tomorrow night. His "Florida, Florida, Florida" rants and his little white board and his giddiness over the whole process were somewhat infectious and tomorrow night just won't be the same without him. Hopefully my festive cocktails will console me!

Those cocktails look delicious! I might send my husband over to join your festive party because I have a feeling I will not be a fun one to be around (stress = not my finest moments). I saw someone make a flag cake and used blueberries and strawberries for the stars and stripes. Oh hell, who am I kidding, it was John and Kate (plus 8).
