I remember....

I have no energy to write today, but I did want to acknowledge that my loving husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary on Monday. We enjoyed delicious steak and not so delicious year old wedding cake. Ah, tradition. This post is going to be a bit sappy, but sometimes they have to be- just for me. During dinner, we both finally admitted that neither one of us really remembered much of the wedding day....including, but not limited to our kiss, exchanging vows, cutting the cake or talking to many random people who later told us they were there and loved getting to see us! But there were a few things I do remember...

I do remember kneeling with him during the ceremony where I asked him if he had had a good day because we hadn't seen or spoken to each other since the night before. He responded by saying, huh? I just smiled and asked him again....I do remember the first four words that came out of the the preacher's mouth that started the ceremony (two thousand years ago...)
I do remember what Dad said to me before we walked down the aisle (We made it!)....I do remember looking at both my sisters when Michael H talked about our families....I do remember getting my veil caught on the pew as we walked back down the aisle....and how this actually produced the best picture of the whole day....I do remember stopping to kiss him before the madness ensued and we were bombarded by family, friends and photographers...I do remember how beautiful the flowers were (thanks uncle donnie!).....I do remember how heavy my bouquet was because it was loaded with roses!! I do remember seeing my family sitting in the front pews....and seeing my friends who had traveled from the east coast just to see us tie the knot....I do remember keeping a whole bottle of champagne to myself for our trolley ride....I do remember very loudly singing the words to our first dance to my loving husband....I do remember going outside the reception just so the two of us to take a breather from all the festivities...I do remember how honored I felt as I looked at both the wedding party and the house party and how much they meant to me...
I do remember seeing my sisters dance the routine from "Friends" and how happy it made me to see them together again....I do remember my dad's toast....I do remember having my best friend help me unhook all my buttons because I knew there was no other way out of the dress....I do remember getting pelted in the face with lavender as we left....I do remember the greatest feeling in the world when we drove away and knew it was all over and I had married my best friend....

...in a small town called Cana of Galilee, there was a wedding...and Jesus himself was present at that wedding. But the miracle of that day wasn't so much that Jesus attended the wedding, but that all who gathered found themselves to be blessed as a result of His presence."

Congratulations to you both on this wonderful milestone. May they all be filled with the same joy, remembrances, and gratitude!
