We went out to eat with some friends this weekend and my loving husband and I think someone spiked our drinks....with something that contained "memory lane" inducing qualities. We (sadly) admitted and re-lived so many high school and college glory day stories that at the end of the evening, I secretly prayed our behavior didn't scare away our friends completely. In honor of the tales I told on Friday night, I couldn't resist stealing this survey from my friend Meredith who I think stole it from my blogging friend Haley.
1. Did you date someone from your school? Oooh, yes, yes I did.
2. Did you marry someone from your high school? No, but I did meet my husband because of someone from high school. For those creepers out there...my now husband and my then high school boyfriend were frat brothers...suite mates really (I can sense you all judging). But to my credit, my mom met my dad because she was dating his roommate. I just tried to keep it real. And to my loving husband's credit, due to the standard "bros before hos" rule, he told me to go fly a kite about 6 times before giving in and dating me...I was persistent (stalker-ish, whatever) and knew he was the one I was supposed to marry. Turns out I was right : )
3. Did you carpool to school? I walked home my freshman year because I lived two blocks away but Lauren would ride with me to school in the morning. I drove my sophomore-senior years. Yes, even though the school was two blocks away.
4. What kind of car did you have? Oh, the Pimpo. It was a white Ford Tempo with bright red interior with the seat belts that would move back when you started the car.
5. What kind of car do you have now? A practical blue Jetta with heated seats- my favorite feature.
6. It's Friday night...where are you? It depends on the year....freshman year, I was with one or more of my girlfriends. Sophomore year, I was on the sidelines of the football game. Junior year, I was probably at home organizing my sock drawer. Senior year, I was with my then boyfriend at the football game or standing in the parking lot trying to figure out where we were going to go for the evening.
7. It is Friday night...where are you? (now) Out to eat either with just the loving husband or with friends. If we're at home, we are watching our favorite show, The Soup. It's hysterical.
8. What kind of job did you have in high school? My very first job was working the cigarette counter at Drug Warehouse. I lasted about 2 months. I then went to work at the bridal salon where I stayed for about 7 years.
9. What kind of job do you have now? Oh, I cringe at this question. I really don't know how to explain to people what I do, but let's just say I organize professional sporting events of the golf variety.
10. Were you a party animal? That's a big negative.
11. Were you considered a flirt? I would again say no.
12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? Even though I am not talented in the vocal music department, I was in Choir all four years. I really did have a blast and it was pretty much the only thing that kept me going through some rough times.
13. Were you a nerd? I would say yes. I was on pom for a couple of years and had a good variety of friends, but all in all, I would say yes.
14. Did you get suspended or expelled? No...I did skip school quite a bit my junior year, but somehow never got caught.
15. Can you sing the fight song? Oh yes, yes, I can. In fact, I can PERFORM the fight song.
16. Who was/were your favorite teacher(s)? Oh heavens, Mr. Call (choir), Mrs. Lytal (history) Mrs. Lentz (European history) Mr. Goss (history) and Madame Rose (French).
17. Where did you sit during lunch? Again, depended on the year....Freshman year- the cafeteria annex thing or outside, sophomore year- the choir room, junior year-the choir room and senior year -the same table in the cafeteria everyday.
18. What was your school's full name? Memorial High School.
19. When did you graduate? 2000
20. What was your school mascot? Charlie the Charger!! A gigantic horse.
21. If you could go back and do it again, would you? I really don't think so. No, definitely no.
22. Did you have fun at your senior prom? You know, our prom was in an airplane hangar. So the humidity was AWESOME on the hair. I was sick as a dog (mono) so that kind of sucked, but I was named prom queen, so that as kind of fun I suppose. I never did get a crown though as the class president didn't really want to give it to me.
23. Do you still talk to the person you went to prom with? Ok, this is creepy Meredith, but I still talk to my Junior prom date whose name is John as well. And I think he even reads my blog too. Hi John! As far as my other prom dates...no, I really don't keep up with them.
24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion? Honestly, no. I really don't think I will go. I know Lauren will call me and try to drag me to it, and maybe she will win, but for right now, I don't plan on going.
25. Do you still talk to people from school? Not really. I keep up with one close friend and the occasional facebook chatter with a few others, but that's about it.
And now that I have shared some high school memories in sober-like fashion as opposed to my ramblings from this weekend, I feel a little bit better about myself. Thank you for bearing with me.
