Bits and Pieces

I can't really come up with any one big blog post, so I thought I would share a few smaller things of significance in my life at the moment....

The Irony
So you know that Ambien commercial with the rooster? You know, the one they ONLY SEEM TO SHOW LATE AT NIGHT?? If you are lucky enough to be able to sleep right on through this one, let me explain. It's a commercial (I realize we've established that) for Ambien (again with the obvious) and there is this rooster who walks up onto a women's bed and starts crowing and thus, wakes her up. Then the rooster follows her around the rest of the day reminding her that she did not sleep last night and should have taken Ambien. Very creative advertising.

Anyway, this commercial seems to air about the time I am just starting to fall asleep every night. It is not the loud crowing of the rooster that wakes me up. No, no. It is the fact that my lovable first born, Lola, HATES that rooster. And she goes bazerk and barks loud enough to have a commercial of her own every time she sees the rooster. It has gotten to the point now that she doesn't even have to see the rooster...she hears the crickets chirping at the start of the commercial and knows that evil bird is about to make an entrance so she jumps the gun on her aggressive behavior and wakes me up. Every. night. Maybe I should try Ambien? I dunno.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
It's Autumn! Oh and I do love Autumn. I thought I was being Susie Homemaker by purchasing some fall colored mums to put in planters on my front porch. You know, to welcome my guests and my favorite season. I was pretty proud of my decor until.....until.....the neighbors started decorating. Boy, are we going to be out manned come Christmas time.

The Halloween/Fall decorations in this neighborhood are ridiculous! And I am not talking about just throwing up some of those, um, inflatables. There are full blown graveyards erected in front yards, gigantic spider webs strung from one end of the porch to another, beyond life size ghosts hanging in entryways and one family has some strobe-light/laser show going on.

I am starting to panic a little bit about how we are even going to compete at Christmas. I might have to step up to the plate and channel my dad's former days when he thought he was Clark Griswald . A blog post about the aforementioned childhood we endured might come later this year. Someone remind me to do that.

Say A Little Prayer for....My Loving Husband
Drum roll, please.......I am hosting Thanksgiving! I can hear a slightly flat cymbal crash in all of your minds as I picture myself standing triumphantly in the dining room with a turkey baster in one hand and an oven mitt on the other.
Thanksgiving is my all time favorite holiday so I am beyond excited about this one. I frantically raced to a furniture store yesterday to purchase a dining room table big enough to sit more than four people (our current one) and small enough to fit into the room. It will be delivered and assembled next week. Enough seating for everyone- check that off the ol' to do list. And yes, I have started a Thanksgiving 2009 To Do List. No, no, you should not be surprised. Ahem

A Sentimental Closing
I would be remiss if I did not at least mention that my loving husband and I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary on Tuesday. Two whole years. I still feel like our wedding was yesterday and all in the same breath I can't believe it's only been two years.

Keeping with tradition, we gave each other small gifts made of cotton. 1st year is paper, 2nd year is cotton, 3rd year is leather and that is about as far as I can go from memory. Anyhoo, my loving husband gave me the cutest kitchen linens to use for my Thanksgiving feast. It was so thoughtful and just what I needed and it was cotton! Props to my loving husband. And I gave him....wait for it.....an Oklahoma State Snuggie.

Please note-- this is NOT a picture of my loving husband. It is from this site where you can order your very own collegiate snuggie. I will not admit over the blogosphere whether or not he has used it several times over the past two days, but I think you can figure out that answer for yourself.

I do believe we are going to need to see a picture of him in that snuggie!! Or, he can model it at small group. Either one will work for me. Ha!
