USA...USA...US-AM

So, I am probably one of 1.5 million people who will post about catching the "Olympic Spirit." While I have never really been one of those people who drops everything to race to their TV and chant, "USA" and then stand next to the water cooler the next day incessantly talking about how exciting last night's ping pong championship was, I must say that this year, I am into it. Maybe it is because not too many exciting things are going on in my life or maybe it is because I am fascinated by the fact China is hosting the games. Either way, I am hooked. It also helps that the company I work for represents a lot of the athletes (including a ton of these crazy record breaking swimmers) and I get daily updates from our home office. Or maybe it is because I heard that there are over a million volunteers at the games. You've got to be kidding me. A million volunteers?!? Who the heck had the mindset to sign up to manage that big of a crowd?? 3,000 volunteers is my record and I lost 10 pounds managing them so I can't even imagine one million. That's insane.

In travel updates, I am heading to North Carolina tomorrow for this year's US Amateur Championship, or "the Am" as the cool kids seem to call it. I have never been to North Carolina, so I can cross that one off the list. I am excited to have some sweet tea and tobacco. (I kid- that is all I ever hear about NC, so I hope it lives up to my extremely high expectations). I hope to have some stories from the trip, but I am not actually working this one, I am more just observing, so it is a relief to not have to a massive"to do" list eyeing me down as I get off the plane.

In closing, I have one small confession to make. I started blogging because I was slightly, um how shall we say, addicted to reading other people's blogs. I did a good job of only reading blogs of people I know. Until last week. In an effort to make the seconds on the clock tick a little bit faster in my bustling office of three people, I started reading all the "blogs of note" on blogger. Sadly, folks, I am now addicted to reading about people's lives of whom I have never met and probably won't meet. Whoops. No turning back now.

Besides my new addictions of reading and watching about other's exciting lives, nothing else exciting is going on in mine, so I shall keep this post brief. More to come from Pinehurst.
