This was the first weekend in a very, very long time that my loving husband and I had absolutely no definite plans. What a great feeling.
Saturday morning I packed my recycled grocery bags and headed to the Farmer's Market. I apparently "got there late"- 10:00 is not that late on a Saturday! - and missed all the good fruit. Oh well. There was still plenty of produce. So I loaded up my shopping list and went to visit my friend who sells soap and eggs. Yes, soap and eggs. I got my dozen and started chatting with her and she told me about a lavender festival she was going to work that afternoon. Apparently, somewhere between graduating college and moving to the suburbs, I started discovering my inner hippie or something because I immediately decided I needed to go to the lavender festival too.

Apparently, somewhere between graduating college and moving to the suburbs, I started discovering my inner hippie or something because I immediately decided I needed to go to the lavender festival too. Knowing just the person who would want to go to such festival with me, I called my mother and told her I was on my way to pick her up and head south to the lavender farms. She excitedly told me she would be dressed and ready to go when I got there.
Sidebar- maybe I shouldn't be focusing on the fact that I am apparently discovering my inner hippie but rather be concerned about the fact that I am turning into my mother. She sometimes reads my blog so I won't digress too much as the woman is arguably my closest friend, but I think I just let out a deep, deep sigh. Moving on.
We drove about 30 minutes south of town and stumbled upon the lavender farm. I had no idea
such a farm existed so close to my house. I naively thought lavender was only grown in Provence or something. I really need to learn to take (and use!) my camera with me everywhere because this small picture I found really doesn't do the place justice. Behind the rows and rows of lavender I found rows and rows of grapevine. Not only does this place harvest lavender but it is a winery too. Who knew. After wandering around for a little bit, I picked up a recipe for Strawberry Lavender Cake. This afternoon I got fairly ambitious and tried it out. I am pleased to report it is delicious! After taking in all the lavender, Mom and I headed back to town. We made a quick run to Whole Foods and then headed home.

After my afternoon of natural goodness, my sister called and told me she had an extra ticket to
the Drowsy Chaperone. I can't remember the last time my sister and I went to go see a show together. Normally, I am going to see her perform in the show. I think the last time we sat next to each other in a theatre was when she came to visit me in Connecticut and we took the train in to Manhattan to see La Cage Aux Folles. Which is an absolutely fabulous show, by the way. Ok, back to the Drowsy Chaperone. I don't think I quit laughing throughout the entire two hour show, which didn't even have an intermission. It was great! It reminded me of my all time favorite show and my sort of blog namesake - Thoroughly Modern Millie. If you've never seen it or heck never even heard of it, I highly recommend it. It was a movie back in the 60s and then they turned it into a Broadway show a few years ago. The movie is extremely long so make sure you have a few extra hours on your hand. The live stage version is shorter and just as good as the original movie, in my humble opinion.
After the show, we went to a local pub, where I tried a beer "flight." I thought flights were only for wine, but apparently I was mistaken. After sampling five different beers, I decided it was time to get back to my loving husband and the puglets. All in all a great day.
Tonight I am about to settle in and continue my weekend of jazz hands and kick lines and watch the Tony Awards. I am sure it goes without saying, but- I. LOVE. THE. TONY. AWARDS. I realize I have turned this post into something of a preview to that new show Glee. But I hear its a really funny show so maybe you'll forgive me.
